Miami-Dade County's top two wide receiver prospects for the class of 2009 -- Archbishop Carroll's Rodney Smith and Norland's Xavier Rhodes -- each orally committed to Florida State this weekend.

Both players said they have received numerous offers from Football Subdivision schools and there are six months left until National Signing Day, but Smith and Rhodes said they are committed to the Seminoles.

''The coaching staff [at FSU] works real hard to develop players, and that's something that impressed me,'' Smith said. ``[Wide receivers] coach [Lawrence] Dawsey knows what it takes to help his receivers get to the NFL.''

FSU has three early commitments so far from Dade, including South Dade defensive end Ed Stinson, rated the No. 8 overall prospect in the county by The Miami Herald.

Rhodes (6-2, 194), who said he has offers from UM, FIU and West Virginia, is rated No. 7 in Dade and is entering his third season as a starter at Norland.

Smith (6-6, 206), the No. 9 prospect in Dade and a four-star prospect by Rivals.com, said he has more than 30 offers including UM, UF and South Florida. He caught 30 passes for 627 yards and seven touchdowns last season to lead the Bulldogs to the state semifinals.
