Redland candidates' residency questioned
Questions are being raised as to whether two candidates for the Redland Community Council meet all the necessary legal requirements to hold seats on the board.

Questions are being raised as to whether two candidates for the Redland Community Council meet all the necessary legal requirements to hold seats on the board.
The Palmetto Bay town hall meeting scheduled for May 29 was abruptly canceled just days before the date. No reason was given for the cancellation and no new date was announced.
The Democratic primary for the state House district representing large swaths of unincorporated South Dade will be the final say on who occupies the seat.
REDLAND SPICE PARK AREA A thief stole a generator and a trailer after breaking a gate lock at a house in the 21300 block of Southwest 240th Street between 12:30 and 3 p.m. Aug. 8. The stolen items were valued at $8,000. Damage was estimated at $20.
The Homestead-Miami Speedway came alive with amateur motorcyclists screaming around two miles of track in the sweltering August heat.
The real estate slump that has left dozens of empty and foreclosed homes in South Miami-Dade has also created one more worry for neighbors and police: the danger posed by abandoned pools.
While election season ramps up across South Florida, one slate of local races has failed to garner much interest: that of the community council member.

Both Mr. Bauer and George Kosel, another early homesteader who was involved with the selection of the name, told me about the Redlands, Calif., and Redland, Fla., competition in citrus. Both of these gentlemen were very adamant that the name be spelled correctly.

Smith-Butler recently helped bring the Family and Friend Day festival that drew about 100 to play softball, basketball, volleyball, flag football, soccer, dodgeball, checkers, chess and dominoes.

Dozens of airmen from the 482nd Security Forces Squadron at Homestead Air Reserve Base are expected to return home in the next few days after finishing a six-month deployment in Iraq.
