Street artists focus on local issues
Miami street artists take on social issues in a formal gallery setting with Livin' for the City, an exhibit and silent auction, a joint-project of Arts at St. Johns, downtowndiva art, and Imagine Miami. Mixed-media paintings such as Gerry Stecca's Livable and Connected Communities represent 'young, raw, informed voices speaking out in ways that have, in some cases, been censored or outlawed,' says curator Jean Villamizar. Other exhibiting artists include Krave, and Raymond Gems Adrian. They explore issues of housing and gentrification, poverty and prosperity, and building community.
Livin' for the City opens 6 to 9 p.m. Saturday at 2045 NW First Ave., Miami; 786-942-7002 or www.downtowndivaart.com.
