Canes take postseason title
KIDS AT PLAY The Miami Hurricanes capped an undefeated season by winning the postseason title in Starter A of Cooper City Optimist boys' basketball at Cooper City High School.

The Dania Beach Hurricanes entered two water polo teams in the Sunshine State Games at the Coral Springs Aquatic Center. The 14-and-under team, led by the Khalil twins, Samantha and Juliette, placed fourth. The 18-and-under women's team, led by Kristin Plitnick, finished third.

KIDS AT PLAY Members of the Pembroke Pines Panther Judo Club-Somerset won 16 medals during the Sunshine State Games in Lakeland. Briana Padron won three gold medals. Kathy Lieby captured gold and silver. Joseph Padron earned gold and bronze. Andy Alsina, Heidy Arias, Tommy McDonald, Matthew Post and Ashlyn White each won gold. Gaby Rivera earned two silver medals. Ethan Martin captured silver and Raymond Oliva bronze.
The historic 10th anniversary season of the Orange Bowl Youth Football Alliance will kick off in August as more than 16,000 youth football players and cheerleaders take the field.

KIDS AT PLAY The Miramar Optimist Track Club had tremendous success during the AAU National Junior Olympics at Eastern Michigan University in Detroit. The club, which qualified 20 athletes, captured 18 medals (nine silver, two bronze, seven copper).

Plantation's Shane White and Kayla Williams were big winners during the Junior Golf Association of Broward Summer Championships at Fort Lauderdale Country Club, Pompano Beach Golf Course and Jacaranda Golf Club in Plantation.
