Ready or not -- and at the moment it's not -- the Dolphins will soon reveal a starting quarterback, whose identity presently is as hidden as the eyes behind the dark sunglasses forever attached to head coach Tony Sparano.

Inside the Li Ning sporting goods store on Wangfujing Street, all the mannequins are dressed in the red-and-yellow uniforms of the Chinese Olympic team. A hurdler presumably represents 2004 champion Liu Xiang, and a gymnast must be Cheng Fe, who created a vault named after herself, and a diver looks like Guo Jingjing, famous for her splashless entries and splashy headlines. And, of course, the tall one, but not quite tall enough to stand in for the 7-foot, 6-inch Yao Ming.
After three days of practices, the most memorable mental image of fall football camp at the University of Florida occurred Wednesday afternoon, when Percy Harvin (jersey No. 1), Jeffrey Demps (No. 2) and Chris Rainey (No. 3) limped side by side to the back of Florida's practice field. Harvin didn't practice for the second day in a row because of offseason heel surgery. Rainey pulled a groin muscle Tuesday and didn't practice Wednesday. Jeffrey Demps fell to the ground...

Much to the delight of the Marlins, pitcher Jamie Moyer is human. Much to their dismay, umpires are, too. The Marlins nibbled into the Phillies' lead in the National League East on Tuesday. But they had to overcome not just Moyer, who never had lost to them, but also an umpiring crew that mistakenly awarded a home run to the Phillies.
The Marlins didn't get a catcher at the trading deadline. But they will be getting one Wednesday when they activate Matt Treanor from the disabled list.
The state attorney's office in Gainesville said Tuesday that former Pompano Beach Ely standout Ronnie Wilson's arrest on a marijuana charge in Alachua County in January was dismissed because the prosecuting attorney perceived the case against Wilson too weak to file charges.
Miami tailbacks Damien Berry and Lee Chambers left practice early Tuesday because of heat exhaustion.
